Thriller and Horror Book Cover

Thriller and Horror Book Cover Design Services

InkBlimp has created countless horror and thriller book covers. It’s one of our specialities, and one that our designers have a lot of fun with. In fact, all of the book covers on this page were created by our in-house design team, and if you use our Order Form, you can get the same designer/design team to create your cover.

InkBlimp Horror Book Covers

Our designers have created numerous horror and thriller book covers for dozens of paperback books and eBooks. Due to our relatively small size and our devotion to high-quality, in-house design, there is a limit to how many jobs we can take at once. As our schedule fills up, the deadlines listed on the order page will be extended. However, if you simply can’t afford to wait and need something quick, feel free to contact us directly and we’ll see what we can do.

How We Design Horror Book Covers: For Individuals

The process of creating a thriller or horror book cover is similar to the process of creating any other book cover. The process begins when you, the author/publisher, establishes contact with our team. You can do this by clicking the link at the bottom of this page. You will be asked a series of questions about your book and the design that you want. This will help us generate a quote, which you can pay at the end of the process using one of several secure payment methods.

The details will then be passed to our design team for inspection and planning, before the best designer for the job is chosen. We have a very small and capable team, and they all have their own styles and capabilities. If there is a specific style you like on this page and want our designers to replicate, be sure to mention it, and we’ll make sure the same designer works on your project.

Once the cover has been completed, then it will be reviewed by our Head Designer and sent to you. We’re happy to make small changes on all submitted covers (such as changing the text, colours, or placement of certain layers), but unless one of our multi-packages is chosen, we cannot provide a complete redesign.

As for the deadline, we’re confident that we can deliver in the time quoted. If we are late by just one day, we’ll refund 50% of the cost; if we’re late by a week, we’ll refund 100%!*

*Applies to orders that have been paid for and have fixed deadlines. See our Terms and Conditions for details.

How We Design Horror Book Covers: For Companies

We offer the same high level of service for all of our clients, whether they’re authors looking for a single cover or publishers looking for dozens of them. If you fall into the latter category, we invite you to use the Order Form at the bottom of this page to get a feel for what our designers can do, after which you can contact us directly to discuss bulk book cover purchases.

Our designers can work directly with your content creation team or with your authors, and you can give them a long list of details or let them use their own creative licenses—it’s up to you!

We don’t offer free book covers as a “trial,” even for publishing houses and agencies, so please keep this in mind before you get in touch.

What Makes a Good Horror Cover?

A good horror cover should be dark, foreboding, and enticing. It should reflect the ambiance and theme of the book without giving too much away. One of the biggest challenges faced by horror book cover designers is to create something that is original enough to stand out on the shelves, but familiar enough for readers to recognise the genre with a simple glance.

As an author, it’s also important to understand that while the designer doesn’t know your book and your characters as well as you do, they do have a better idea of what works from an aesthetic point of view. InkBlimp’s designers also have experience within the self-publishing and traditional publishing industry, so they have a good feel for what sells and what doesn’t. You can still give as much input as you want, especially if you have a particular vision, but there are a few things that may not be possible.

For example, our designers relate stories of clients who have requested horror book covers with nudity, gratuitous violence, and heavy drug use. Some have asked for all three! If you have a very specific need for this type of cover, they might be able to make it happen, but it’s important to consider that such a cover will not be stacked on shelves or might not be allowed in the Amazon store. Controversy can sell, but in this case, it won’t even get your book on the shelves!
